Gunter Blobel is a German scientist, winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. After completing his education at the University of Munich, Gunter Blobel received his Ph.D. at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Garching, Germany. He obtained his habilitation at the University of Marburg, where he headed the Laboratory of Neurochemistry and Translational Research
He is currently director of the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Goettingen. His research interests are in the areas of neuromodulation, neurobiology of addiction, biomolecular signaling, and structure-function relationships in human proteins involved in neurotransmission and neuromodulation.
A great deal has been learned about cell communication. The universal nature of cellular structure and organization in bacteria, plant and animal cells has been discovered.Gunter Blobel
